rhizomag: Call for Submissions

Issue Two: Luminal Landscapes

Submissions open: October 27–December 27, 2025
Publication: February 2026

The world keeps rearranging itself. Continents drift in our sleep. Memory becomes weather. What we know of “place” (and of ourselves) is never still; like the Earth, it is always turning. In the shifting light, art becomes a map.

For our upcoming issue, Luminal Landscapes, we’re exploring the spaces that shape us. We are thinking of space broadly: the geographical, the emotional, the intellectual. We’re drawn to the porous edges between world and self, where boundaries blur and meaning emerges.

We’re interested in the backyard that still remembers your childhood, the parking lot that sings very loud at night, the street corner where something once happened and maybe still does.

We want you to write toward the overlooked, the mundane, the intimate. The more specific you get, the more we can see you. Show us your landscapes: their rhythms, textures, and local color, whether they’re  literal or entirely psychic.

If you’re writing fiction, push beyond what’s possible. If your characters are always animals, let a duck narrate the city. If you’re writing essays, write toward the moment you almost remember, and stay there. If your poems move like the wind, let them alter what they touch.

What metaphors of place can you reinvent? What geographies live inside you?
