“Would you mind telling me a story other than Little Red Riding Hood?”

Chapter 1

Let’s talk about creation

& where you came from.

You were born from a telescope,

& it was then that you were given the task of looking through its lens.

You’ve yet to notice the stars that observe you from their galactic home

& yes, from up there, they are able to see you.

They look down at you with great curiosity.

They ask themselves why your gaze stays fixated in a single direction

when it’s the world’s pleasure

to have received you

in its space.

Chapter 2

Chapter 3

The stars came down beside you

& looked at your heart & said,

“Let that be your lens”

& pushed the telescope away

The end.

 

Dorcas Perez was born in a city she’ll never know, New Haven, Connecticut, in ’95. They received degrees from The University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, and Clemson University. Perez has published poems and illustrations in places such as Tonguas, The Chronicle Magazine, and Floresta Libros.
